Overview
We are looking for outdoor educators to help us lead backcountry programs and/or day camps. On backcountry programs instructors will lead backpacking, canoeing, rafting, and caving experiences. In addition to the activities, instructors will teach various leadership, communication, and technical skills. Day camps include teaching outdoor activities, games, and short lessons to younger participants (5-8 years old), and/or leading initiatives, lessons, and experiences (e.g. hiking, caving, canoeing, biking, and rafting) to participants ages 9-11. New employees are expected to attend the training trip June 1-6.
Qualifications:
Build competencies in wilderness and teaching skills.
Explore West Virginia on foot, boat, and bike.
Pay depends upon prior experience; commensurate with other outdoor programs
Meals will be covered while on course (we will work with you on dietary restrictions and preferences) and instructor housing will be provided during day camps and between backcountry programs.

About Appalachian Expeditions
Appalachian Expeditions is an outdoor education program based in Davis, West Virginia. We are centrally located between Pittsburgh (3 hours), Baltimore (3.5 hours), and Washington DC (3 hours). Our mission is to educate and inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Central Appalachian region through adventure, community, and sustainable living skills. APEX runs two types of programs: Front country day camps for kids ages 5-8 and 9-13. And backcountry expeditions ranging from three days to two weeks. These trips may include any of the following activities: backpacking, canoeing, rafting, biking (mountain and/or gravel), and caving.
