As a Backpacking Specialist at our Windy Peak Overnight Camp, you will do exactly that by guiding kids on multi-day backpacking adventures. You will spend the majority of your summer leading a group of campers to different campsites each night all while teaching campers teamwork, Leave No Trace principles, and how to unplug and reconnect with the outdoors. Instructors are the cornerstone of our team, providing support, mentorship, and instruction to our campers with enthusiasm and passion. Instructors provide 24-hour care for our campers and act as their primary support while in cabin, on/off property, on expeditions, and more. This is an incredible opportunity for someone looking to make a lasting impact for dozens of campers this summer.

In this role you will:

Provide 24-hour support with guidance, supervision, safety and comfort for participants during all activities.
Guide an overnight experience, ranging from an 1-night overnight onsite to a 5-day backpacking trip.
Organize and participate in camp programming, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals.
Serve as a role model and guide campers by exhibiting appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities.
Follow and educate campers on safety protocols to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants.
Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs.

Qualifications:

Minimum 21 years of age by the start of camp training.
A Wilderness First Aid (WFA, WFR, EMT, or W-EMT) certification is required to work at Camp Windy Peak.
1+ years of experience working at a resident camp is preferred but not required.
Truly enjoys working with kids! Comfortable with the hours and supervision expectations of overnight camps.
Valid drivers' license is required for 21+ years old staff. All 21+ years old staff may be assigned to attend drive training.

Work Schedule
Resident camps are a 24/7 operation. The resident camp leadership team will create a schedule that provides you with one evening off/week and segments of other time off throughout the week.
Mandatory training begins May 24 - June 9 (position depending). Programs begin June 11 and run through August 5.
