WANT TO JOIN THE BARRIER ISLAND TEAM?
Want to teach at the beach? St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center is seeking passionate, Christian teachers for our Barrier Island Environmental Education Program! Barrier Island is in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina and is located on Seabrook Island, about 25 miles from Charleston.
The BI program is in an area that lends itself to show the diversity of ecosystems in the Lowcountry. These areas include nearly a mile of beach, acres of salt marsh and undisturbed maritime forest, including ponds and freshwater swamp.
POSITION DURATION
August 15, 2023 – May 10, 2024
RESPONSIBILITIES
Educate students in grades K-12 in environmental-based classes on beach, salt marsh, and maritime forest ecosystems. Other topics include Herpetology, Ornithology, Orienteering, and various team-building activities. There are also opportunities to assist with animal care, maintenance of trail systems, and aid in curriculum development, and other camp responsibilities. Because St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center is a thriving Christian community, Barrier Island staff have the opportunity to participate in Bible studies and weekly chapel.
Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree is required. A focus on education, biology, or environmental science is preferred but not necessary. An interest in teaching, communicating, and displaying God’s love with grade-school students is essential.
COMPENSATION
Bi-weekly stipend, beachside lodging, free laundry, meals, and Wi-Fi access.

About Barrier Island Environmental Education Program
The Barrier Island Environmental Education Program is a ministry of St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center, located 25 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina on Seabrook Island. Since 1981, the Barrier Island Environmental Education Program has provided public and private school students in Kindergarten through 12th grades a unique opportunity to learn about nature in a way that is hands-on, memorable and a whole lot of fun! We are a not-for-profit educational service for public and private school students. Up to 170 people can be accommodated within the facility and we provide all teaching, room, and board during the groups stay. The campus includes nearly one mile of beach, 100 acres of salt marsh, 200 acres of undisturbed maritime forest, freshwater ponds, and a freshwater swamp.
