Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire 2 Seasonal Trails Technicians to assist with running volunteer events and work on trail maintenance projects. These seasonal positions will work under direct supervision of a Volunteer Coordinator and will not be responsible for supervising other employees but will help supervise volunteers. These are primarily field-based positions and those hired can expect to spend the majority of their time working outdoors. When not helping run volunteer events, the Seasonal Trails Technicians will perform a variety of manual labor tasks, including trail maintenance tasks such as new tread construction, dry stone masonry, and lumber turnpike construction.

This is a seasonal, hourly, non-benefited position. This position will typically work Tuesday – Friday 7:00am – 5:30pm with occasional Saturdays and evenings to accommodate volunteer event schedules. Advance notice will always be given when work hours differ from typical schedule. This position will work out of 5201 Saint Vrain Road Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).

2024 Hourly Range: $23.23- 24.41 per Hour

Examples of Duties
1. Lead and assist with volunteer projects related to trail construction or maintenance
2. Teach technical trail skills and safety to volunteers
3. At times, assist projects related to land management (grounds maintenance, noxious weeds, forestry, restoration, park building maintenance)
4. Ability to work weekends spring through fall with advanced notice
5. Support Volunteer Coordinators in preparing for volunteer events by:
1. Conducting tool inventories, preparing and distributing tools, materials, safety supplies, and communication devices
2. Being asked to drive a tool trailer following an in-house trailer training
6. Performs construction and maintenance tasks on natural and improved surface trails with guidance from Trails staff
7. Performs semi-skilled and some skilled duties in the operation of hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and vehicles
8. Perform trail maintenance with little supervision in accordance with Boulder County Trails guidelines
9. Conduct regular tool maintenance on crew and volunteer tools
10. Ensure cleanliness and organization of tool trailers and tool storage
11. Communicate tactfully and effectively with the public and coworkers, with excellent customer service skills
12. Demonstrate respect for all identities
13. Ability to stay engaged and motivate others with the task at hand
14. Record project accomplishments daily

Ability to lift 50lbs, hike up to 10 miles a day
