Overview

Whether you enjoy trail, cabin life or teaching in Program Areas, you can spend the summer mentoring 5th-10th grade youth in a variety of different ways. Boys Camp runs mid-June to early-July and Girls Camp, late-July to mid-August. There are mandatory training periods prior to each Camp session. As Waterfront Director, you will be responsible for supervising up to ten waterfront staff in every-day and emergency procedures, teach swimming skills where necessary, and ensure safety of all individuals on the waterfront.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of 21 years of age
2. Previous leadership and supervisory experience
3. Desire and proven ability to positively interact, teach, and build outdoor and life skills (including confidence and self-esteem) with youth and staff in wilderness and in-camp settings
4. Certified in Standard First Aid/Wilderness First Aid (WFA), CPR and Lifeguard or Wilderness Water Safety
5. Certified Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and/or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) (preferred)

Required Skills:

1. Ability to manage staff and schedule the day to day activities of campers
2. Ability to teach swimming skills to participants of various skill levels
3. Ability to operate a motor boat
4. Ability to effectively communicate with all three Camp programs (Leadership, Outpost, and Summer Camp), work independently and meet deadlines
5. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, fire evacuation and illness
6. Ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions

Preferred Skills:

1. Valid driver’s license and no traffic violations within 12 months of starting date of employment (preferred)
2. Good written, organizational and verbal communication skills
3. Good character role model able to demonstrate optimism, resilience, humility, empathy, awareness of self and others, resourcefulness, responsibility and adaptability
