Overview

The Duncan Park Adventure Guide serves as a host and guide for groups of youth, adults, and families as
part of our Summer Camp program. They will work closely with the Director, other guides, interns, and
volunteer leaders. For each of the eight, week-long sessions Adventure Guides lead groups in onsite
activities and adventures throughout the Rocky Mountains. Off-site activities include whitewater rafting
and rock climbing (both facilitated by outside organizations), day hikes in the Roosevelt National Forest,
multiple night backpacking trips through the Indian Peaks Wilderness, and single night camping trips.
Housing is provided for Adventure Guides onsite. Meals are included while groups are onsite and during
off-site programming.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
● Physically capable of hiking 6 to 10 miles a day carrying a 55 pound pack
● Experience in leading youth and adult groups
● CPR/First Aid training; Wilderness First Responder certification preferred but not necessary
● Ability to live at Duncan park over the summer (off-grid site)
● Clean driving record
● 20 years of age

Required Skills:

● Participate in 1-2 weeks of training and site preparation
● Help plan and lead day trips for 1 week of adults, 2 weeks of family groups, and 4 weeks of youth
● Help lead up to 4 extended backpacking trips for groups of adults and youth
● Manage risks, while supervising youth, adult, and multi-generational groups
● Keep guests active and engaged
● Lead games, songs, and various camp activities
● Lead small group discussions
● Help clean and prepare facility for ongoing use
● Transport on mountain roads

‍Duncan Park is an Episcopal camp and conference center in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, 20 miles west of Boulder, Colorado. Existing completely off-the-grid with solar panels providing electricity, no cell phone service, and water from its well, this facility captures the rugged beauty of the surrounding mountains and allows for a true respite from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Summer Camp at Duncan Park offers opportunities for people with a variety of ages and experience levels with sessions for high school youth, college students, and adults. Activities include hiking, backpacking, white water rafting, and climbing.
