Overview
Fidalgo Nature School is seeking an Outdoor Preschool Director for our non-profit, outdoor, nature-based preschool serving children ages 3 through 6 in Deception Pass State Park. This is a part-time, hybrid position (mostly remote with periodic site visits to our preschool site in Deception Pass State Park, and to events within Island & Skagit Counties). Position is 20 hours per week, year round, with an hourly rate of $35.
The Outdoor Preschool Director serves as the chief administrator, providing leadership and implementing policies and programs to carry out the work of our organization. The Outdoor Preschool Director serves as a non-voting member of our Board of Directors and all board committees, and attends all board meetings.
Compensation/Benefits:
● $35 per hour, 20 hours / week
● Paid time off: Accrues at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 worked, starting with a balance of 8 hours
(up to 40 hours rolls over year to year)
● Paid Holidays: 8 assigned holidays, plus 4 floating holidays (4 hrs. each) during the year
● $150 gear stipend

Schedule:
● 20 hours / week
● 12 months / year
● available by phone if needed during school days from 7 am to 2:30 pm
● Start date: August 2026
Qualifications:
● 25 ECE credits or equivalent
● 30 hours or 3 credits of nature-based education/training
● 2 years experience working with children of any age group in an ONB enrolled program
● At least three to five years experience in organizational management, business administration, and/or non-profit programming, including supervisory and leadership experience
● Commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
Required Skills:

● Strong written/oral communication
● Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to problem solve and collaborate with diverse groups of people, practice good judgment, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusivity
● Demonstrated competence in financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting
● Proficiency with Google suite, including Gmail and Google Meet
● Ability to lift up to 15 pounds
Preferred Skills:
● Experience working with Tribal Nations
● Experience managing childcare or preschool programs
● Experience with nonprofit fundraising and grant writing
● Previous success in establishing relationships with funders, partner agencies, and volunteers
