Overview

The Outdoor Center at Garnet Hill Lodge in North River, New York is actively seeking a full-time season assistant manager. This is a full-time seasonal job, with a possibility to go year-round. Housing is not provided.

The Outdoor Center serves as the recreation hub for Garnet Hill Lodge, an historic lodge in the Adirondacks. Garnet Hill is a four-season resort and cross country ski center with around 800 acres of private land sharing borders with the the 115,000 acres Siamese Ponds wilderness tract. In the winter Garnet Hill operates as a full-service nordic center with 55k of fully groomed trails. In the warmer months we operate as a mountain bike park and guide service for lodge guests and day visitors.

The assistant manager will work closely with the manager and assist with everyday operations. This includes operating a point-of-sale system, interacting with guests, selling and renting retail ski inventory, customer service, shop maintenance, and some logistics such as scheduling. The assistant manager will be in a designated leadership role on the manager’s off days. Additionally, the assistant manager should be willing to perform maintenance on our trail network, including some chainsaw work and operation of both UTVs and snowmobiles. Training is available for these hard skills.

Superb customer service, keen problem solving, and self-motivation are key.

This is a fun, gorgeous work environment with opportunities to ski/paddle/ride/hike daily, often on the clock.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in outdoor recreation and retail is strongly preferred. Highly assessed NOLS field alumni could be an ideal fit. Comfort with digital point-of-sale is a must, willingness to perform physical trail-oriented maintenance a strong plus. Nordic skiing background is a strong plus. New York State licensed guides an even stronger plus.

About Garnet Hill Lodge

Garnet Hill is one of a few classic Adirondack lodges that remain today. The lodge or Log House, as it is known, is reminiscent of an Adirondack Great Camp, and the original structure was built in 1936 by Mr. Frank Hooper. Located on a gentle hill overlooking pristine Thirteenth Lake, with miles of private trails and surrounded by forever wild protected state land, the lodge is a special place that offers guests and visitors options for activity, as well as rest and relaxation.
