Job Title: Finance & Budget Manager
Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt (~15-20 hours per week)
Location: Flagstaff, Arizona; some hybrid work is available
Compensation: $29-$40/hour depending on experience

Reports To: Executive Director
The Finance and Budget Manager will manage Grand Canyon Youth’s financial operations, including accounting and payroll, compliance, budgeting and reporting, and analysis. Responsibilities span from transactional work to coordinating the annual audit process and supporting strategic financial decision-making. This position requires strong collaboration with colleagues to communicate financial information and opportunities to improve financial health and to support decisions that advance the organization’s mission and long-term success. The contributions of this position are vital to our mission’s success. This role carries significant responsibility and requires the highest standards of ethics and integrity. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Ensuring the organization’s policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations, are followed using GAAP.
* Oversees the day-to-day accounting functions, including: revenue and expenses, documentation and approvals, banking and credit card processes, and reconciliations.
* Processes payroll (~95 employees), including benefits, tax deposits, and quarterly & annual reporting
* Manages the organization’s cash and cash reserves, including fund transfers, banking relationships, and regular reporting
* Creates monthly financial statements and budget variance reports
* Ensures proper and timely documentation and record keeping for accounting, internal controls, and audit trails
* Prepares reports and analyses requested
* Manages the day-to-day and year-end close of the accounting system and related reporting, including adjusting entries and restricted funds tracking
* Advises the organization on developing or known financial impacts and provides recommendations for cost savings and organizational efficiencies
* Recommends, implements, and documents improvements to accounting processes, policies, internal controls & procedures.
* Supports and completes the annual budgeting and forecasting processes
* Prepares requested materials for the annual audit and tax return Form 990, completed by an outside audit agency
* Provides finance and budget information for grant proposals, grant reporting, and grant tracking
* Participants in financial scenario planning, especially during significant events (such as the 2020 pandemic & aftermath, 2025 federal funding crisis)
* Prepares financial analyses for special projects, including capital purchase decisions, cost-benefit analyses, and annual pricing models.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience
A CPA designation is highly preferred
Three years of experience in finance
Experience with nonprofit financial management, including understanding in the 990 and audit preparation
Must have a clear criminal history and the ability to pass background checks
Required Skills:
Good understanding and practice of GAAP accounting
General knowledge of state and federal rules & regulation
Proficient in QuickBooks Online
Ability to work in Google Suite programs, especially Google Sheets
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to function well in a busy work environment, including a shared office with frequent interruptions
