Overview

Canoe guide apprenticeship with Mahoosuc Guide Service in western mountains of Maine. Help prepare for, guide and de issue for guided canoe trips. Learn traditional style of camping and canoe guiding, poling, camp craft, cooking over an open fire, baking with a reflector oven and dutch oven. Help with wood canvas canoe construction, make your own wooden paddle. Learn how to paddle in low level white water in canoes. Help with care of sled dogs. Help maintain gear for canoe trips, sewing, varnishing, etc. We provide lodging (room), partial board and cost of living stipend.

Qualifications:

Camping experience, wilderness first aid, drivers license, canoeing experience.

Required Skills:

Good worker, must like dogs (we have 20 sled dogs), honest, trustworthy.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with dogs, comfortable with people of all ages. Some experience with grounds maintenance such as mowing, weed wacking, gardening.

Outdoor guide service in western mountains of Maine offering year round fully outfitted canoeing and dog sledding trips since 1991. Owners are both Master Maine guides with over 40 years of experience guiding in the outdoors. We breed and raise our own Yukon husky sled dogs and keep a kennel of about 20 dogs.
