Overview

Work for Anchorage Parks and Recreation leading a youth crews in a first time job. The Youth Employment in Parks program teach teens natural resource job skills through building soft surface trails, restoring stream banks, constructing rain gardens, and other park improvement projects throughout Anchorage. Crew Leaders deliver instruction to motivate and garner cooperation from project participants and staff. Implement constructive guidance to youth crew members and assistant crew members . Work with groups and individuals to coordinate and ensure project completion/events facilitation. Care for and ensure safe use of tools and equipment among youth crew members and assistant youth crew leaders. Transport program participants to various sites using 15-passenger vans. Administer first aid and CPR. Communicate knowledge gained through contact with community resources and partners to reinforce environmental knowledge during park projects and recreation programs. Deliver developed environmental education curriculum and lead planned environmental education activities with Crew under the guidance of the Education Coordinator. Perform other related duties as assigned.

YEP is a 10 week summer work program for Anchorage teens that complete park and trail improvement projects throughout the Municipality. YEP spends Monday –Thursday working on projects and every Friday YEP explores public land and has adventures on our Education/Recreation Fridays. Come be part of this great program!

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year of experience working with teens or youth. Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required.

Must possess the following license by the time of hire:

Valid State of Alaska driver's license
Current American Red Cross First Aid Certification or the equivalent
Current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or the equivalent

Required Skills:

Ability to work in adverse conditions and on uneven terrain.

Preferred Skills:

Experience working with and leading youth, enjoy working outside, and want to make a difference in the community.
