This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a national service program that places AmeriCorps members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont to support those organizations in building capacity and expanding their services that many communities rely on. LEAP members deliver direct service to local youth in the form of PreK-12 STEAM educational programming. LEAP supports members in their path to educational and career attainment through direct service, on-going trainings, and professional development opportunities offered during the service year.

About Northwoods Stewardship Center
NorthWoods Stewardship Center is a non-profit organization located on a 1500 acre campus in East Charleston, VT. Our mission is ‘to connect people and place through science, education and action’.

Position Description
The Mountain Bike and Outdoor Education Instructor will assist the Education staff and Mountain Bike Coordinator as they develop and implement mountain bike programming and outdoor education with local schools, and promote and facilitate summer camp programs and adult outreach programs that focus on environmental education and outdoor recreation. Other activities this instructor may lead include flat water canoe instruction, team building, ropes course, natural science and wildlife education, hiking, swimming, outdoor exploration, survival skills and crafts.

This position will also include some service in the education office to support the member’s educational
programming activities.

Participate in required LEAP/SerVermont events as well as have access to participate in optional
service projects and trainings.
Attend required LEAP orientation training either via Zoom or in person prior to beginning
service.
Site Qualifications
The qualified applicant will have a positive attitude, high energy, exhibit patience and flexibility and excellent communication and leadership skills, and demonstrate experience leading groups of young adults in an outdoor setting. The qualified applicant will be an advanced cross-country mountain biker, experienced in riding all types of terrain, including singletrack trails. Experience with downhill riding or bike parks and pump tracks is a bonus. Applicants must have a commitment to serving with youth in the outdoors, and possess a strong sense of stewardship of the natural environment. Applicant must have a well-maintained front or full suspension mountain bike.

LEAP Minimum Qualifications:
● Be a US citizen (or have permanent resident status; call with questions about this);
● Be at least 18 years of age upon entering the Pre-Service Orientation (there is no upper age limit), or 17 years of age with written parental permission;
● Be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate, or be willing to work towards their GED as part of their service-year successful completion requirement. A member cannot have dropped out of high school to
