Overview

The Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits is responsible for developing and administering Pacific Universities.

Pre-Orientation Outdoor Adventure Program (Voyages) and supporting all aspects of the Outdoor Pursuits Program. Additionally, there may be opportunities to teach courses in the Outdoor Leadership major & minor for additional adjunct pay.

This position works in conjunction with the Director of Outdoor Pursuits within the department of Student Affairs. The Voyages program is an extension of Outdoor Pursuits and a partner to Orientation that serves new students in their transition to life at Pacific. Voyages are 5-day (overnight) adventures that provide new students with a meaningful and lasting introduction to Pacific University through challenging activities led by student leaders and accompanied by faculty or staff members. The Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits will also support Outdoor Pursuits operations by developing leadership opportunities for student staff, managing program risk, managing a fleet of outdoor equipment rentals, and implementing creative solutions that aimed at providing Pacific students with meaningful outdoor experiences.

Qualifications:

Demonstrate critical thinking skills in problem solving and decision-making.
Experience with confidentiality, privacy, and appropriately maintaining records in line with federal, state, and local laws and best practices.
Use effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Demonstrates experience in EDI work in the outdoor adventure setting.

Required Skills:

Valid Driver’s License with clear driving record and ability to drive a van with trailer through city streets and on small forest service roads.
Certification in Wilderness First Responder (or higher) required.
Documented professional backcountry experience required. Please provide Outdoor Resume as well.
Technical training and certifications in outdoor adventure disciplines desired (i.e. WFR Instructor, ACA Instructor, Single Pitch Instructor.)
