The associate camp director at Big Spring Ranch for Boys, which along with High Trails Ranch for Girls make up Sanborn Western Camps, is second-in-command at Big Spring. The associate director will assist the camp director in the summer with all operational and leadership duties, and and will assume leadership of specific year-round duties depending on interests, experience and organizational needs. This is a year-round, professional position. The associate camp director should be a creative self-starter who brings energy, confidence and excellent problem solving skills to the position. We are looking for a proven leader who is excited about youth development and outdoor adventure and is capable of building a strong sense of rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds.
The associate camp director is responsible for assisting the camp director in operating a safe, healthy residential community which provides an experience for campers and staff in accordance with the missions of the Colorado Outdoor Education Center and Sanborn Western Camps. In the summer the associate camp director assists in all aspects of the community as needed, from daily programming, meal and health care oversight, to transportation, facility needs, staff supervision, training, and communication with parents. During the rest of the year, the associate camp director works alongside the camp director and a smaller team of professionals including program directors, support staff and other COEC directors, to thoughtfully develop and manage programming, human resources, financials, marketing, strategic operations and professional development. As a key member of the leadership staff, the associate camp director should expect to be involved in community-wide emergencies, events, initiatives or work projects as they arise. The associate camp director reports to the camp director.

Minimum two years seasonal administrative experience in residential camping; at least one year with year-round experience preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Certifications in areas of emergency medicine, ropes course facilitator, rock climbing, lifeguarding, or horsemanship
Previous professional experience in summer camp direction.
Experience in risk prevention and management.
Experience in residential care of children and adolescents.
Experience in creating camp programming.
Extensive experience in leadership, training, development, hiring, supervision of staff.
