The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire young adults for the programs.

Position Dates: 8/19/2024 – 12/20/2024 (Dates are slightly flexible)

Location: John Augustus Hall, West Boylston, MA

Primary Responsibilities:
Are you seeking an opportunity to mentor young adults as they look to jumpstart their career in an environmental field? Does completing environmental and recreation services in picturesque Massachusetts, throughout the fall, sound like fun? If you said yes to either of these questions, then this Leader position with the Massachusetts Conservation Corps is for you!

The MACC is a partnership between SCA, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Massachusetts Service Alliance, and AmeriCorps. This position helps members learn the technical and interpersonal skills to become conservation leaders. Join our community of like-minded individuals and help us provide great services for the state of Massachusetts and support for our program’s members.

Specifically, the Crew Leader will:

Be a crew supervisor and mentor for the young adult participants
Facilitate and help members build their teamwork and leadership skills
Provide technical project support
Assist members with the administrative tasks of completing timecards, project reports, and other duties as needed
Aid members in the maintenance of programmatic tools and equipment
Maintain and uphold risk management policies
Communicate with agency partners, ensure successful and timely project completion, and help maintain SCA’s high standards and positive reputation
Management and maintenance of SCA programmatic vehicles
Leader Qualifications:

1-2 years prior experience in supervising young adults preferably in an outdoor setting
Strong communication, leadership skills, and work ethic are required
Self-starter, ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced team
Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 10 hours per day, exposed to the elements, occasionally lifting 50 pounds or more, and hiking 5 or more miles per day
Previous trail construction experience and knowledge is desired
Wilderness first aid and CPR or higher certification is desired but not required
Minimum of 21 years of age
Able to legally work in the US
Valid Driver’s license and driving record within SCA guidelines
Have a personal vehicle – mileage reimbursement available for work-related travel
Leader Benefits and Compensation:

Salary: $1000per week
Housing provided
Travel Stipend: $800 (1/2 paid on first paycheck, 1/2 paid on last)
Stipend for use of personal cell phone
Training & professional development opportunities – Opportunity to recertify or attend select training, including Wilderness First Aid and CPR, SCA’s trail skills training, and more!
