Overview
The Human Resources Manager is the primary onsite HR leader for Teton Science Schools, supporting our Early Childhood–8 school, Professional Learning programs, field education, and wildlife expeditions in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
This role partners closely with Helpside PEO and internal leadership to manage employee relations, payroll and benefits, compliance, housing coordination, and the TSS 403(b) plan. The HR Manager also plays a key role in strengthening organizational culture and supporting safe, well-staffed programs aligned with TSS’s mission of place-based and outdoor education.
Key Responsibilities
HR Support Across Programs
– Serve as the primary HR contact for school staff, professional learning coaches, field educators, and wildlife expedition guides
– Support employee relations, safety concerns, team dynamics, and program execution across classroom and outdoor settings
– Ensure compliance with certifications, background checks, training, and mandatory reporting requirements
Risk Management Partnership
– Collaborate with Risk Management to align HR practices with youth, outdoor, and guiding safety standards
– Support staffing systems that reduce risk through consistency, training tracking, and clear communication
– Align HR processes with field, vehicle-based, and backcountry operations
PEO Partnership (Helpside)
– Partner with Helpside on employment law, compensation guidance, compliance, and employee relations
– Ensure consistent policy application across campuses and program environments
– Manage escalated HR issues with Helpside and TSS leadership
Payroll & Benefits Administration
– Oversee payroll in coordination with Finance and Helpside
– Support employee benefits questions, onboarding, life changes, and claims
– Lead open enrollment and benefits education for staff
Employee Housing Management
– Manage housing intake, assignments, transitions, and scheduling for staff and seasonal employees
– Maintain a transparent, equitable housing framework aligned with TSS values
– Track housing inventory, maintenance needs, and planning considerations
403(b) Retirement Plan
– Serve as the internal subject-matter expert for the TSS 403(b) plan
– Support enrollment, education, compliance, audits, and reporting
Culture & Organizational Cohesion
– Promote a culture of trust, transparency, and collaboration
– Strengthen cross-campus communication and staff engagement
– Support onboarding and professional development rooted in place-based education
Core HR Operations & Compliance
– Lead onboarding, offboarding, and seasonal workforce transitions
– Maintain HR compliance for Wyoming and Idaho
– Manage policies, documentation, workers’ compensation, and HR communications
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Education Administration, Organizational Development, or related field.
5+ years of HR experience, including direct work in a school setting (K–8 or Early Childhood).
Experience with risk management in environments serving children and/or outdoor programs.
HR experience in a nonprofit organization.
Strong employee relations capabilities, conflict resolution skills, and ability to manage escalations.
