Overview

The instructional coach will enhance the capacity of teachers at the Elementary Learning Center, Deep Creek Primary School and Deep Creek Middle School to deliver cross-curricular experiential learning integrating the resources of the Island School community as well as local Bahamian environmental organizations, cultural experts and agriculturalists to support the vision & mission of The Island School. This position requires a highly motivated and flexible individual to work collaboratively with leaders and staff across educational programs. The instructional coach will directly support faculty and students in a flexible, team-oriented environment to promote deep student learning and a culture of excellence.

Responsibilities as Instructional Coach
Support teachers to deliver evidence-based best practices for high quality instruction, with a particular emphasis on place-based, experiential learning
Develop and nurture strong, supportive relationships with faculty and staff
Provide ongoing professional development and coaching to faculty and staff (e.g. professional learning opportunities, modeling, co-teaching, targeted 1:1 coaching)
Support teachers with implementation of instructional strategies through modeling, co-teaching, observation, and feedback within an instructional coaching cycle
Guide teachers in recognizing and responding to the unique needs of all learners
Guide teachers in utilizing a variety of on-going, alternative assessment approaches to inform and differentiate instruction and compliment our cross curricular and place based teaching approach
Support the partnership with the University of The Bahamas Teaching Practicum at Deep Creek Lab Schools

Qualifications:

BA/BS or higher
5+ years experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students
Experience with experiential learning, adventure-based learning or outdoor education
