Overview

Nature Camp @ The Learning Community offers outdoor and place-based play and learning for rising Kindergarten through rising 5th grade children. We are based on The Learning Community School campus in the Bee Tree community of Swannanoa, NC which has access to trails, open woods, a creek, and ponds. Every week will include creek and woods play, as well as themed activities that change weekly. Some more complex projects will be primarily facilitated by topic experts but supported by counselors.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Qualifications:

Is at least 18 years of age.
Has experience engaging with children and finds joy in engaging with young people.
Has a positive conception of childrens’ personhood and a willingness to recognize and honor where each child is coming from as a human being.
Has practice in following a schedule and organizing themselves.
Able to disengage from cell phone and media to be present at camp.
Able to pass drug screening and background check.
Willingness to obtain First Aid & CPR certification during train

Required Skills:

Able to remain mentally and emotionally engaged with campers throughout the day.
Able to learn, remember, and lead outdoor activities and games.
Able to navigate challenging and unexpected situations using communication, collaboration, and problem solving.
Able to identify needs of camp and willing to complete needed tasks.
Able to offer and receive constructive feedback.

About The Learning Community School

The purpose of Nature Camp is to offer outdoor and place-based activities, education and a positive community of campers for rising K - rising 5th grade students who attend The Learning Community School as well as members of the wider community.
