Summer Camp Educator

Take flight with Tracy Aviary’s education team! We are seeking a team of three full-time summer camp educators who are mature, highly motivated, and experienced with working with youth to facilitate a thrilling and safe summer of avian adventures for children in grades K-8. The summer camp team will report to the Director of Education and receive daily support from other education staff.

Position Details:
Start Date: Monday, May 23, 2022
End Date: Friday, August 19, 2022
Schedule: 40 hr/wk, 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday
Compensation: $12-15/hr, depending on experience

Primary Duties:
Complete two weeks of paid training.
Prepare for and facilitate 11 weeks of Avian Adventure Summer Camps for grades K-8 (lesson plans and mentor support will be provided).
Support camp participants as they build empathy with nature, develop social-emotional skills, take healthy risks, and form new peer relationships.
Work with other departments to schedule and facilitate special experiences for camp participants, such as meeting ambassador birds, feeding exhibit birds, or participating in community science projects.
Assist in other duties related to Tracy Aviary’s Education Department as needed.

Please note that these positions do not involve any direct contact with animals.

Youth camp and leadership experience
Demonstrated interest in a career in the field of education
Demonstrated interest in nature and ecology
Effective in working well collaboratively and managing time efficiently
Highly motivated and innovative, well organized, eager to take on new tasks and meet commitments
Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, for the entire camp season between the end of May and end of August

Special Requirements:
Ability to remain active and move around our 8-acre campus for up to three hours at a time.

Preferred Skills:

Additional and Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge about regional birds and avian ecology
Certification in CPR and First Aid
Skills in presenting to mixed groups
Food Handler’s Permit
Proficiency in word processing, layout and editing
Familiarity with learning assessment tools and strategies
Knowledge of and commitment to justice, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in the community and workplace
