Overview

The Kitchen Assistant reports to the McCall Field Campus Food Systems and Sustainability Manager. The position will work with the Food Systems and Sustainability Manager and Food Services Assistant Manager to provide food service for McCall Field Campus Guests. Duties include planning and preparing meals for guests and supervising student employees during meal service, supporting relationships with local food producers, and educating McCall Field Campus guests about nutrition and campus sustainability initiatives.

This position is based at the UI McCall Field Campus (MFC), home of McCall Outdoor Science school and MNR Graduate Degree Program. The campus hosts outdoor education programs for thousands of guests each year from pre-K to adult. The incumbent will assist in providing food service for small and large groups that come to campus year-round.

Required Skills:

6 months experience in institutional kitchens, restaurant kitchens, or other food service.
Idaho Food Handler Certification or ability to obtain within two weeks of hire.

Preferred Skills:

Experience cooking for large groups (40+)
Culinary Training
Experience with and/or knowledge of dietary restrictions and food allergies, including proper food handling and workspace management.
Experience with sustainable food systems, including working relationships with farmers and other producers, and sustainable food waste management. Experience with outdoor education and/or science education for children.
Ability to perform repetitive motions, bending, stooping, and standing throughout shift
