Overview
World Ocean School is seeking a seasonal or full time Mate for the Denis Sullivan. A full time position requires roughly 7 months aboard the vessel (non consecutive) and 5 months off, pay for this position is year round, including off time, with benefits.
World Ocean School exists to provide students of all backgrounds with immersive opportunities to learn to care for themselves, their crew, and their ship, becoming vessels of change in the world they inherit. The organization uses the schooners Roseway and Denis Sullivan as platforms for this mission.
December- March: The vessel operates out of St. Croix in the USVI. There we carry out our mission through week long school programs and overnight trips around the USVIs and Puerto Rico.
March-April: The vessel sails to New England
May-September – Day programs and overnight trips with middle school to college aged students. A typical overnight program is ten days in length allowing for extensive sailing around New England.
October – November- Sail south to the USVI.

100 ton Near Coastal Mate License
Tall Ship Experience
Education Program Experience
Required Skills:
Coordinate with Captain to develop daily work plan and schedule
Run the deck during sails
Facilitate shipboard maintenance
Stand watching during overnight programs
Participate in education programs
Provide instruction to deckhands, supporting their maritime skills development
