Overview

-Oversees all overnight and day camps
-Responsible during camp sessions for implementing the camp program of activities as provided by Camp Laugh A Lot (CLAL)
-Responsible for supervising Camp Counselors including assigning them tasks and ensuring they are fulfilling their responsibilities and adhering to all CLAL policies and procedures,
-Responsible for ensuring all CLAL policies and procedures are adhered to during camp sessions
-Responsible for addressing any issues that may arise during camp and for bringing these to the immediate attention of the Board of Directors (BOD) of CLAL as appropriate/required
-Responsible for providing overall supervision of campers to ensure their safety and wellbeing
-Responsible on-site decision-maker and responder during camp sessions in event of emergency
-Assists with logistics support as needed
-Participates in and helps plan the Camp Counselor Orientation
-Takes photos/videos during camp sessions to share with CLAL for posting/sharing as appropriate
-Coordinates with partnering schools as necessary
-Responsible for communicating as necessary with partnering schools and parents/guardians during Camp sessions

Qualifications:

-Experience working with youth between ages 7 to 12 (experience as a teacher, paraprofessional, camp counselor, Camp Director, or other similar experience is highly valued)
-Physically able and willing to actively engage in outdoor recreation activities
-Well-organized and able to follow and adhere to a program of activities
-Excellent supervisory skills and experience supervising both children and other adults
-Enjoy camping and outdoor recreation and have experience with these
-Good communica

First Aid and CPR certified (or willing to get certified before hire)
Must pass a background check

Experience as a Camp Counselor or Camp Director or experience in a camp setting is beneficial
Knowledge of the Black Hills is beneficial
Familiarity with the Lakota culture and with the Pine Ridge Reservation is highly valued

About Camp Laugh A Lot

Camp Laugh A Lot is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Camp Laugh A Lot provides healthy, outdoors experiences in the Black Hills for Lakota youth ages 7 to 12. Camp activities include swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing, hiking, nature study, treasure hunts using nature clues, campfire programs, educational programs about animals and nature, and other activities. All camp sessions are in June. Some camp sessions are day trips to the Black Hills, and some are one or two night overnights in the Black Hills. We camp in beautiful campgrounds in the Black Hills with nice facilities.
