Overview
JOB DESCRIPTION: We are hiring a full-time, year-round Summer Program Manager to oversee our summer programming in the Tahoe and Yosemite regions. Applicants must be physically present in our course areas for the duration of the summer and may work remotely during the academic year, although priority may be given to applicants who live in the Tahoe or Central Valley regions. The Summer Program Manager will work closely with the ARC Program Director to support program goals and student outcomes. Our ideal candidate will begin work in April or May as an assistant to the Program Director to help prepare for the Summer Immersion Courses, then will work as a Summer Instructor during our month-long Yosemite or Tahoe Summer Immersion Course and will transition to the Summer Program Manager role in September. We anticipate this position to include generous paid time off during certain months of the academic year to compensate for the intensity of the summer season.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support logistics and planning for all ARC summer courses: create master calendars, make activity reservations, secure backcountry permits, and develop written materials to reinforce ARC systems and curriculum and ensure consistency across ARC program sites
Collaborate with Program Director (mostly during the winter) in hiring for summer instructors: create summer staff job descriptions, post job announcements, conduct interviews, and support onboarding for all seasonal staff
Support planning and implementation of summer staff training
Support oversight of summer courses: ensure protocol and risk management guidelines are adhered to in all activities, visit each site throughout the summer to provide support, help with logistics, and meet with staff and students
Support summer program wrap-up: organize summer follow-up with students, families, and schools, ensure grade reports and credit letters are sent to schools and students, create summer summary report, assist with publishing the ARC memory book
Qualifications:

Has experience planning and facilitating outdoor education programs for high school students
Has a demonstrated record of sound risk management in outdoor programming
Has experience supervising, supporting, and evaluating staff
Has strong interpersonal skills and can connect effectively with high school aged youth, parents, and community members
Is flexible and adaptable under changing circumstances
Is able to work well in a team and independently

COMPENSATION: Pay for this position starts at $55,000 per year. Adventure Risk Challenge (ARC) is a youth development non-profit founded in 2004. Our programming engages high school youth in Tahoe-Truckee and the Central Valley whose identities are underrepresented in the outdoors and higher education, especially first generation and English language learning students. Our Community Leadership Program has four main goals: to support students in developing literacy skills (writing, reading, and public speaking), positive relationships, leadership skills, and outdoor experiences and connection.
