Overview
The Birmingham Regional Program Manager (RPM) oversees all aspects of BCM programming in the Birmingham area, including logistics and execution of day trips, overnights, and weeklong backcountry expeditions. The RPM manages relationships with youth agency partners, coordinates instructors and volunteers, and oversees the regional budget. This is a solo, home-office role. The RPM must be physically located near BCM’s Birmingham storage unit and should expect on-site time for gear management and local logistics such as food procurement, laundry, and van pickups.
Duties include the following:
-Coordinate and lead regional outdoor programs (day trips, overnights, expeditions) – hiking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, and kayaking.
-Build and maintain relationships with youth agency partners and local community members
-Hire, train, and support instructors and volunteers
-Oversee logistics, operations, and program safety
-Manage details behind the scenes—from gear to schedules to data systems
Required Skills:
Experience leading or supporting outdoor programs (especially with youth)
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage logistics, details, and multiple priorities
Comfort working both independently and as part of a remote team
Ability to build relationships across diverse communities and stakeholders
Experience with risk management and outdoor safety practices (WFR and White Water Rescue or similar preferred)
Confidence communicating clearly and navigating challenges in dynamic environments
