Overview
Are you ready to trade your screen for the scent of pine and the crackle of a campfire?
Join Camp Arcadia for Girls as we embark on our landmark 110th season. We are seeking a Wilderness Craft Lead (Head of Campcraft) who is passionate about the “old ways”—the skills that turn a walk in the woods into a home in the wilderness.
In this role, you aren’t just supervising; you are a mentor and a storyteller. You will lead our outdoor skills program, empowering girls (ages 7-17) to find their grit and grace in the Maine woods. From teaching the perfect feather stick to navigating by the stars, you will foster a deep, lifelong connection between our campers and the natural world.
Key Responsibilities:
Skill Mastery: Design and lead lessons in fire building, knot-tying, shelter construction, and tool safety.
Empowerment: Create a safe, high-energy environment where girls feel confident taking on new outdoor challenges.
Curriculum Design: Bring your own “bushcraft” expertise to refine and elevate our campcraft program.
Leadership: Manage gear logistics and maintain the high standards of a premier residential camp.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of experience leading groups in a backcountry, scouting, or camp setting.
Education: Degree or significant coursework in Outdoor Education, Recreation Management, or a related field preferred.
Certification: Must hold a current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or WFR (or be willing to obtain it before the season starts).
The Arcadia Spirit: A "can-do" attitude and a genuine desire to make the world "better and more beautiful."
Required Skills:
Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of fire craft, navigation, camp cooking, and shelter building.
Communication: Proven ability to engage and manage groups of children and teenagers in a dynamic outdoor environment.
Resilience: Ability to maintain high energy and a positive attitude regardless of the weather or trail conditions.
Physicality: Comfortable leading hikes and lifting up to 50 lbs of gear when necessary.
Preferred Skills:
Wilderness Survival & Bushcraft Mastery
Curriculum Planning & Mentorship
Public Speaking & Demonstration
Backcountry Risk Management
