Overview
Great Basin Institute (GBI), founded at the University of Nevada, Reno, is a mission-driven non-profit organization headquartered in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. GBI has been a leader in the conservation stewardship field for 25 years, supporting thousands of individuals pursuing a career in public land management and/or advancing their academic pursuits.
The primary duty of the Chief Operations Officer (COO) is to support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the development and implementation of the GBI’s strategic plans and policies specific to Program implementation, development and long-term success. The COO provides leadership and direction to Program staff and regularly oversees the work of four or more senior GBI staff members as direct reports.
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting annual COO salary is $115,000 – $120,000 depending on experience. In addition to a competitive base salary, this full-time, onsite position includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance (100% covered by GBI for employees), as well as a 401(k) with up to 4% match, PTO, paid holidays, and family leave. The COO role contributes to GBI’s significant impact within the fields of environmental research, education, and conservation, as well as developing and providing direction to a highly capable and committed team.
