Overview

Our Outdoor Educators facilitate youth backpacking summer camps and adventure based outdoor education programs. Our Outdoor Educators work hard to ensure our programs are meaningful, supportive, educational and fun while providing superior service levels that exceed client expectations. Our Outdoor Educators will work late May through most of August and can expect an average of 18-21 days per month. First year Outdoor Educators will also have opportunities to assist on our Guide Service programs (adult and family day hikes and backpacking trips). Staff working in our Guide Service program can work from May-October as both Outdoor Educators and Guides on any of our programs.

– Safely facilitate Youth Summer Camp programs.
– Assist and lead Guide Service programs and day trips as needed.
– Provide for the care and proper usage of Lasting Adventures gear.
– Have an extensive knowledge of Lasting Adventures’ Policies and Procedures.
– Prepare adequate food and gear for each trip.
– Prepare and cook high quality meals using a variety of ingredients. Meals are expected to meet quality standards in taste and presentation, and cater to different client food preferences, allergies, and dietary restrictions
– Fully unpack, de-prep, and clean up after trips have returned from the field.
– Promote Lasting Adventures and our mission to clients, suppliers, partners, staff, and other members of the general public.
– Be a good representative of Lasting Adventures to the National Park Service and other overseeing organizations. Thoroughly follow Rules and Regulations of governing agencies.
– Provide clear and effective Leave No Trace and outdoor stewardship education to Summer Camp and Guide Service participants.
– Utilize medical skills as needed and according to training and standards.
– Utilize company vehicles for transportation of staff, participants or clients, goods and supplies, and other uses as needed.

Qualifications:

- A current Wilderness First Responder certification (or higher) and CPR. WFR courses must be at least 70 hrs.
- Minimum of 21 years old.
- A current California Food Handlers Certificate.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- A current, valid driver's license, maintain a clean driving record, and have a reliable mode of transportation.
- Able to attend Mandatory Staff Training in late May.

Required Skills:

- Respond accurately and honestly to complaints from clients and co-workers.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Efficiently communicate via phone, text, email and sat coms devices with our Admin Team
- Lift 50 lbs on occasion
- Work in exposed areas with heat, cold, and weather
- Backpack without injury

Preferred Skills:

- 1 or more years of Customer Service experience.
- 1 or more years of experience working with Youth.
- Experience in a leadership position.
- Experience in the outdoors and backpacking, including knowledge of gear and backcountry cooking.
- A college degree or certificate in Outdoor or Environmental Education, Recreation, Environmental Studies, Youth Development, or a related field is helpful.
