Overview

Unique opportunity working with the Emergency Medicine department at a hospital in NYC. We have a wilderness medicine elective for 4th year medical students that takes place in September of each year. Part of that course is a 4-day canoe trip in the Delaware Water Gap (Sept 25-29, 2025). We’re hoping to have an outdoors skill oriented person accompany the group on that trip to teach basic backpacking skills to a group with a wide range of outdoor experience levels similar to what you would encounter as a CL on a NOLS trip: how to pack your backpack, what to bring for gear, how to find / build shelter, how to purify water, etc. etc. We’d also love for this instructor, if interested, to give us input on how best to shape this outdoor experience on a yearly basis. For people with an interest in wilderness medicine as well as the chance to leave their mark on an outdoor experience for rising doctors, this is a unique opportunity. Pay rate will be at NOLS course daily rate for the duration of the trip.
