Overview

We are looking for motivated educators/health care providers to support students from California’s San Mateo County through the outdoors for the 2024-2025 school year. San Mateo Outdoor Education is a five-day residential outdoor education program nestled in an old growth redwood forest in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Our Health Care Specialist heads up our safety and medication administration during the program. Expect to, under the supervision of the Principal of Outdoor Education perform a variety of health care activities involved in administering first aid, dispensing medications and providing medical treatment and emergency care services to students enrolled in the Outdoor Education program. You will be a member of a team of 20 – 1 Director, 1 Principal, 1 Senior Naturalist, 5 Naturalists, and 11 Intern Naturalist plus an Administrative Assistant that works primarily at the San Mateo County Office of Education. Starting pay is $27.07/hr for 40 hours of work a week, plus occasional overtime. You will be on call one night a week. Housing is available (private room in a shared house with other senior staff) at a rate of $221.08/week during the program, though you can live in the house for the whole contract. Start date is 8/19/24, ending for next school year 5/16/25. 9 month position, but it’s permanent, so you can come back year after year!

Qualifications:

Interest in building a shared community, openness to learn and grow. Must commit to work the entire length of the contract.

Required Skills:

EMT or LVN, etc. 1 year of medical or outdoor education experience (or both!)
