Job Description: Lower School Science Teacher

Telluride Mountain School – Telluride, a truly unique independent school nestled in the San Juan mountains serving students Pre-K through 12th, is seeking a Full Time Lower School Science Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. At Telluride Mountain School, we understand that success isn’t only measured by grades in the classroom. We challenge our students to explore their environment and seek out meaningful experiences outside of the library–which is why you will often find us on the ski slopes, hiking the San Juans or exploring the world through our experiential education trips. We also recognize the importance of making strong relationships with teachers and peers, and encourage our students to build lasting relationships that strengthen their sense of community. So while academics are important here, we believe in a holistic approach to education–one that involves fostering creativity, curiosity, and meaningful connections.
The Lower School Science teacher will teach students in grades 1 – 6. The teacher’s approach should be hands-on and experiential, and should integrate outdoor/experiential activities that ignite a passion for science in students. Possibility to teach Math as well, exact courses are to be determined by the candidate and needs of the school.

Teaching Duties:
Implement student-centered pedagogy and TMS’s research-based elements of effective teaching
Plan dynamic units framed by learning targets and learning outcomes with the team
Support other Lower School teachers in delivering a cohesive program
Participate in the Experiential and Outdoor Education Programs, including but not limited to Fall and Spring Trips
Opportunities to lead or participate in Winter Sports programming
Collaborate in grade level and department level teams to refine curricular goals
Maintain consistent student records, as required by TMS

Compensation: This is an exempt, full time position. Salary in the $50K-65K range based on experience.

Qualification Requirements:
Classroom teaching experience preferred
An undergraduate degree or graduate degree in related fields of Education is required
Communication skills and commitment to teamwork are expected
