Join Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Trail Crews!

Sequoia Trail Crew and Kings Canyon Trail Crew are both hiring multiple positions for our 2024 season. If you are interested in living and working in the beautiful wilderness of the Sierra Nevada, look no further. All skill levels are welcome, but a good attitude and willingness to learn are necessary.

The primary purpose of the Masonry Worker position is to assist in the maintenance, repair, and stabilization of structures and sites built of stone and mortar in relation to Park trails.

This position requires frequent overnight backcountry stays.
Incumbent will be required to live in remote Wilderness settings for extended periods of time.

As a Masonry Worker the duties will include the removal/demolition of existing failing wet/dry walls, excavations, and construction of wet/dry masonry. The position will be required, at times, to work without supervision. As directed by the supervisor, you will assist in:
– Removing damaged portions of walls or other similar features in preparation for repair or implementation of new wet/dry walls
– Implementing prescribed preservation treatments (excavating, resetting, wet/dry laying rock, etc.)
– Recording the location, time, materials, and labor involved in the treatment process
– Responsible for selecting the proper tools and materials and maintain responsibility for keeping all tools and equipment utilized in a clean, serviceable, and safe condition
– Perform rough carpentry work.

Work is be conducted in a safe manner for the protection of self and fellow workers, particularly when using mechanical tools and equipment. Assignments involve strenuous exertion including hiking, climbing steep slopes to project work site, bending, lifting heavy objects (rocks of up to 50 pounds), stooping, and kneeling.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April through October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Performs heavy lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted, carrying stone, mortar, soil, and other equipment. Normally required to bend, stand, and kneel for long periods of time. Required to hike long distances and climb steep slopes.
