The director will lead the Sierra Club Chapter Outings community to collaboratively develop strategic plans at the national, regional and chapter levels, with clear strategies and associated resources tied to the organization’s 2030 Strategic vision. They will ensure necessary resources and communication structures are in place for the chapter outings community to best execute on its priorities and measure success. Growth will mean not only increasing the number of people connected to nature and to the Sierra Club, but growth in chapter capacity (e.g., deep culture of collaboration based on just relationships and shared decision-making, a maturation in program evaluation, innovations in program governance and support infrastructures). The director will strengthen and standardize the internal functions that support outings staff and volunteers at the national, chapter, group and section levels and strive for consistent, effective communication with stakeholders.

About Sierra Club

At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it.
