Overview
Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
SIP in partnership with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), seeks a Research Analyst to play an important role in assisting OSMRE’s Office for Equal Opportunity (OEO) to collect, analyze, and interpret data to determine primary Limited English Proficiency (LEP) populations located in areas where major coal mining industries are prevalent, in addition to other responsibilities.
This is a 15-week internship, lasting from March 11, 2024 – June 12, 2024.
The OEO Research Analyst will primarily be working on two projects. The first project will involve conducting research regarding LEP populations in States and Tribes where mining is prevalent. As a part of this project, the research would further narrow concentrations of LEP populations in counties or areas where OSMRE provides oversight of surface coal mining and the work performed is Federally funded by the agency. The second project involves the creation of workforce trend graphics/tables in accordance with sections of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 regarding establishing a model Equal Employment Opportunity program. These graphics will serve as a resource for OEO to provide OSMRE leadership with direction, guidance, and monitoring for progress towards achieving a diverse workplace free of barriers to equal opportunity. They will also be used in conducting ongoing barrier analysis and the annual State of the Agency briefing.
