Overview
The Scuba Educator will be responsible for planning, leading, and supporting in the execution of scuba programs across education departments at The Island School. This includes, but is not limited to: Semester and Summer Term Programs, Deep Creek Middle School, and Partnership Programs. We are looking for educators who are committed to experiential education and passionate about both teaching and learning. The scuba educator will facilitate immersive learning experiences for students, following PADI standards. Ideal candidates will be able to integrate PADI scuba education with the three pillars of Island School: sustainability, sense of place, and intentional community. We expect the instructor to create meaningful scuba experiences that connect to students’ other coursework. Additionally, the scuba educator will be enthusiastic about linking classroom learning to life in the community and outdoor learning experiences.
This position will work closely with the Scuba Manager who will oversee all Scuba operations at The Island School. Collaborate with education leaders to deliver scuba programming to students in the Semester and Summer Term Program, Deep Creek Middle School, and Partnership Programs. Certifying students across educational departments, including but not limited to: PADI Open Water Certification of Semester and Summer Students, PADI Open Water Certification for Deep Creek Middle School Grade 9 Students, PADI Open Water Certification for the Young Leadership Program, PADI Open Water Certification for Visiting Schools, Management of the Island School PADI e-learning system including but not limited to: sending out e-learning codes to students, ensuring that students have completed their e-learning, processing student certifications, and supporting students through the completion of PADI e-learning courses, Create interdisciplinary connections between scuba diving and student learning outcomes. Work professionally and cooperatively within the school community and broader South Eleuthera community. Assist in the daily running of dive operations. Uphold risk management of scuba activities. Contribute to the daily functions and operations of our campus community (chores, farm, wet lab, dish crew, etc.).
Qualifications:
A current PADI Scuba Instructor certification
Captains License, minimum RYA Powerboat Level 2
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification
Experience working in an active dive operation
Experience in operating boats of various sizes
Knowledge of tropical marine ecosystems
Prior experience working underwater. i.e. with lift bags and tools
Proficient computer skills, especially using Google-suite & Microsoft Office

Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary educational setting to support place-based education
The ability to thrive within a cross-cultural team. A desire to support students, interns and staff to build leadership skills. The ability to multitask, with strong planning and logistics skills.
